On a whim I decided to join some friends going to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. We were late to arrive but it was at a perfect time of day with Golden Gate Park being enveloped by the warmth of the setting sun. While multiple stages of foot stomping music happened all around us, it was those attending that drew my attention the most.
What I love about photography is that it creates a means to connect to those around me, not only with my friends, but also with those I might otherwise might never have a reason to approach – Cesar, dressed in a hand-stitched leather vest and dapper top-hat, 10-year-old Mae from Santa Cruz who sang the Robert Earl King songs alongside fellow fans 4 to 5 times her age, a beautiful young couple from Oregon a month into their relationship on their first road trip, and Joe, a musician from Oakland with a summer beard that would rival Santa during the darkest winter months.
Always be shooting, always bring your camera, always be curious. You never know who you might meet.
