Four years ago I caught up with my childhood friend, independent hip-hop artist, Corey Scoffern and photographed one of his shows. Earlier this month I met him again at his “How the Grouch Stole Christmas” tour that was wrapping up in San Francisco at the Fillmore. Corey has amazing collaborators that he has teamed up with, most notable is Eligh who partnered with him over the years and for their newly released a 3 CD album set.
Over the years as I have listened to Corey’s albums I’ve learned that within this men on stage are fathers, brothers, husbands, artists, poets, prophets, and political and social commentators. They seek to speak about the truth and sift though the negativity that many young people are burdened down by. They have been inspiring to listen to and watch over the years and I am consistently encouraged as a fellow independent creative to follow my convictions, trust my passions, and never stop.
